Uterine Fibroids
What Women Should Know About Uterine Fibroids
The most common non-cancerous tumors in women of reproductive age are the uterine fibroids. The fibroids consist of muscle cells and other tissues that develop within and around the walls of the uterus or womb. They are made out of the same tissues that also form the muscles and other body parts. These tumors can grow in a single or in cluster of varied sizes.
Uterine fibroids are categorized into three groups depending on its location. One group is called the Subserosal fibroids. These fibroids do not affect menstrual flow but cause body pains and can hamper the function of the bladder resulting to frequency in urination. This group of fibroids grows on the outside covering of the uterus. Another group is called the Intramural fibroids are the most common fibroids and grow between the muscle linings of the uterus and increasing its size and having heavy menstrual flow and body pain. And lastly, the Submocusal fibroids, growing under the uterus lining which causes prolonged menstrual period and bladder malfunction.
Uterine fibroids do not usually occur not until a women’s production stage and such problems can be encountered during women pregnancy or women who are trying to get pregnant. Women who have fibroids suffer from early labor, miscarriage and infertility. Almost 25% of women in productive stage develop uterine fibroids but do not necessarily result to complications.
Studies show that overweight or obese and black women are of greater risk of having uterine fibroids. The risk of having fibroids decreases after a women’s first pregnancy. Researchers at present still do not know the reason of developing fibroids but they suspect that the estrogen level of women affect the growth of this tumor. Genetic abnormalities, family history and type of race are also said to be factors that cause fibroids.
There are many ways to avoid growth of fibroids and one of them is avoiding processed food or commercial products, food that contains hormones like meat and eggs. In order to control the pain and avoid discomfort cause by fibroid you can also practice yoga.
Women who have fibroids are recommended by doctors to undergo treatment but only if the tumors only becomes uncomfortable, problematic or painful otherwise if it does not cause discomfort, women who have mild fibroids may control it through proper exercise and a balance diet or doctor may recommend taking drugs to cure the fibroids. Prevention is better than cure, it is always best to visit doctors for regular check up in order to monitor your health.
